About Alice Springs Theatres and Entertainment

(Alice Springs, Northern Territory - NT, Australia)

Theatre in Alice Springs dates back to the 1930s when performances first started to be held in a Sidney Williams hut, then known as Welfare Hall on the Recreation Reserve.

The hut continued to host performances until 1954, when the Alice Springs Theatre Group staged its first production in what became known as the Totem Theatre. In addition to this theatre is the Araluen Theatre, which hosts a variety of performances by various troupes.

Alice Springs holds events all year round that feature live traditional and contemporary music. The NT Indigenous Music Awards take place here every year and feature enlightening performances by native artists. For more modern sounds, try Bojangles Saloon and Restaurant or the Todd Tavern.
